About Me

Hi my name is Jake, I’m currently living in Cornwall, UK and studying a Bachelor of Science in Web Technology . Sounds glorified but it’s not that amazing! Most of my time is either spent with my other half or studying, I don’t really have time for much else. And when I do have spare time it’s usually spent designing or programming side projects for clients or for myself. I’d say that I’m pretty balanced between programming and visual design at current, most people usually fall into one or the other but I find I’m confident in managing the two at the same time, maybe one day that will change, but for now I’m happy with being on both sides.

Looking at the future I think I’m more inclined to go for Visual Design, I do enjoy programming at lot, but when it comes down to it, no one really stays on a site or looks at an advert for very long if it’s just been put together in Notepad or Paint. Catching the viewers eye for more than 10 seconds is quite an achievement in my opinion. And that’s what I want to be able to do, get their attention and bring them to the target area.

I took an interest in computing from an early age, computers were first introduced to my Primary school and so I have had access to them for many years, only lately in the last few years have I began to take an interest in programming and design. After studying an ND in Software Development I was given a taste of the web side of programming as a few units were focused on it. After that I began to learn the most common web programming language PHP from home which I now believe to have a firm grasp in. After which I decided to study a full degree in Web Technology which I am currently still doing at Truro, Cornwall.

The web has grown in such a tremendous way over that last ten years and now takes a pivotal role in how we operate in day to day life. With phenomenons like Facebook and Google products and the rise of Open-source within businesses and so on, it’s not a surprise that the development of how the web works and maintains these large networks is always changing. I aim to take my place in being part of Web Development after I complete my Degree in two years which by then the way we use the web will have probably changed again. It’s a rapid and ever changing place with new technologies broadening the horizon of how we use the web… When will it stop? Will it even stop?
